Since the 6th July we have been running a “Choose & Collect” service for customers so that people can collect books from our foyer at a pre-arranged time. It is all completely contact less and seems to be working well so far. We have also been delivering books for customers who live within walking distance of the library but can’t get here.
To use these services just email email@example.com or call us on 01409 253514 for more information and to arrange a time. Books can also now be returned through the letterbox too should anyone wish to do so.
As yet we don’t have a date for reopening more fully at Holsworthy – the libraries in Devon are being reopened in phases so that we can learn as we go and keep staff and customers safe. Watch this space … as they say.
There is still a huge range of digital titles and services available for library customers.
In addition we regularly post and share online events and information on our Holsworthy Library Facebook and Instagram pages. Earlier this year our First Assistant, Helen took a Makaton training course and she has been putting her new found skills to good use in her weekly Bounce & Rhyme videos (https://www.facebook.com/HolsworthyLibrary/videos/2511146635655753/).
It’s obviously a very different summer this year from those of the past. We are usually busy delivering the Summer Reading Challenge to hundreds of children in the area through July and August (the SRC has of course moved online this year). However, it is fantastic to be getting books to customers again, albeit in a different way than usual. We are looking forward to the next stages of reopening further and welcoming people in to browse the shelves in (hopefully) the not too distant future.
We are very much missing seeing all our customers in the library, especially as prior to COVID we had just had a fantastically busy year where we saw an increase in the amount of Active Borrowers, Volunteer hours and Events held here. However, we look forward to welcoming people back into the building sometime soon!
